About
Cimientos is IATI Theater’s play development program dedicated to supporting emerging and established Latinx playwrights. Each year, a select group of plays is chosen from hundreds of submissions to participate in the program.
Rooted in IATI’s commitment to vanguardia, Cimientos pushes beyond traditional playwriting to explore bold, interdisciplinary, and innovative theatrical forms. Selected playwrights participate in a collaborative development process, meeting weekly to read and respond to each play in the cohort. Guided by IATI’s artistic leadership, these sessions create a space for critical dialogue, revision, and experimentation.
The program culminates in the Cimientos 2026 Staged Readings Series, where each play is presented to the public for the first time.
