About
A theater company in Havana prepares to premiere a new version of Salomé when an order arrives to shut it down. The director disappears, and in his absence, the assistant director convinces the company to move forward with the performance. As tensions rise, men and women dressed in plain clothes enter the theater carrying sticks. What begins as a rehearsal becomes a confrontation, where art, authority, and resistance collide in a volatile and unpredictable space.

Rogelio Orizondo is a Cuban playwright with a degree in Playwriting from the University of the Arts in Havana and a Master’s in Creative Writing from the University of Texas at El Paso. His work has been staged internationally, including at the Wiener Festwochen, Festival Internacional de Buenos Aires, and the Kennedy Center. He has received major awards such as the David Award and the Virgilio Piñera Award. His plays have been published in multiple languages, and he has collaborated extensively with leading directors and companies across Europe and the Americas.
Artistic Team
Leyma López, Director
Cuban-American theater director based in New York since 2012 and recognized for her contributions to contemporary Latino theater. Trained in Theater Pedagogy and Theater Directing in Cuba, she founded the theater projects Rompecalle and Teatro Columna, developing work centered on dramaturgical adaptation, actor-driven research, and creative collaboration. Recipient of the Van Lier Fellowship, Leyma served for a decade as Resident Director at Repertorio Español, where she directed acclaimed productions including Aire Frío, La Celestina, and La ternura. Honored by several New York theater organizations, she continues to be a dynamic voice in Latino theater, with more than twenty productions to her credit.
