About
The play is a three- character drama set in Western Ukraine in spring 1953. A Ukrainian woman lives alone in the countryside where she keeps a Jewish man hidden in the basement since wartime. A young Soviet commissar visits the cottage unexpectedly hoping to discover a hidden secret from the past. And that he will, but it will not play out as he expected. Love, religion, ethnicity and war are the main reasons for the world’s most heinous crimes. They all turn people into poppies which have shed their petals.
