IATI may be small, but we are brave. We are artistic adventurers. Never shying away from the unknown, but fearlessly venturing into the new.
We take risks because we believe you can’t create something new without going somewhere that makes you a little bit uncomfortable. Some may say we’re a little different. We call it vanguardia. Just look at our award-winning repertoire of comedies and dramas that highlight thought-provoking and universal issues of the human experience.
The Latin American culture is one of drama, sensuality, and laughter. We’re passionate about our Latin American roots. We believe cultural exploration is part of what makes our work so rich and relevant, whether it is dance, theater, or music.
We’re always asking questions. We’re never satisfied with the status quo. It’s the secret to how we find the extraordinary.
Our mission is to perform and promote our contemporary Latino heritage through full productions in theater, music and dance, as well as staged readings and workshops, serving as a bridge between artists and underserved communities in our New York home in the East Village on national and international tours.
IATI (International Theater Arts Institute*) is a New York-based, non-profit performing arts organization established in 1968, dedicated to serve all audiences in Spanish and English languages. Our vision is to bring art into the lives of those in poverty, ethnic and cultural isolation. Therefore, our artists address contemporary issues of broad human interest and frame them in an appropriate cultural context of powerful social impact to provoke introspection and social awareness. We are also devoted to the emergence of new artistic talents in the disciplines of theater, music and dance, providing training and encouraging the fulfillment of artistic potential.
