Planet Between the Stars sheds unusual light on the search for Pluto—a quest that brings Percival Lowell and his entourage face to face with greed, science, mortality, and infernal poetry. By 1916, Percival has abandoned a life of privilege to pursue astronomical dreams. His enterprises thwarted, he makes a desperate bid to prove the existence of the mysterious “Planet X.” Tensions grow, and bitter quarrels consume him and those he holds dear. As competing observatories take on the quest, a Kansas farmer enters the fray. Prepare for a rocky journey through space, time, and verse.
About the Playwright
Hillary Bhaskaran began this play for a Glendale college class and developed it with her father, co-playwright Gerald Pops. Much help came from contributor Sonia Bhaskaran and family, Caltech consultants, and the Cimientos 2017 team. In April 2016, the play received a staged reading at MACH 33: The Festival of New Science-Driven Plays at Caltech. Hillary is a freelance editor, writer, and teacher. She creates Caltech Y annual reports and was associate editor of Caltech News. Gerald, a professor of public administration at West Virginia University, is best known for weaving puns into his lectures. His latest book is Ethical Leadership in Turbulent Times: Modeling the Public Career of George C. Marshall.
